Thermal Corporation offers three different types of band heaters: Mica band heaters, Ceramic band heaters and Rectangular band heaters. Band heaters are made to heat cylinders, such as pipes, barrels, or nozzles of injection molding and extruding machines. To learn more about how to extend the life of your band heater, watch our YouTube video here. Learn more about the band heaters we offer below.
Mica Band Heaters are ideal for customization. They have a reasonably high watt density, reasonably high temperature capabilities (700° F), good efficiency, good lifetime and low cost. They are most commonly used in plastics injection molding, commercial cooking dies and extrusion. Mica Band Heaters are also the most affordable, thus the most popular.

Ceramic Band Heaters have a high temperature capacity of 1200⁰F. Although they are more expensive to make, they typically have the longest span due to the coiled
resistance wire being fed through knuckle (ceramic blocks). Because of superior insulation, less heat escapes and less wattage is required to maintain barrel temperature. The heater is also safer because the external surface is much cooler. These knuckles cause Ceramic Band Heaters to not be very customizable though. Ceramic Band Heaters have three different insulation options:
Standard, Heat Saver, or Vented Outer Sheath.

Rectangular Band Heaters are constructed the same as a Mica Band and so it also has a temperature rating to 700°F. Rectangular bands are used when there is a rectangular die or mold that a band heater will not fit. There are three different types of rectangular heater bands. Configuration 403, 415, or 417 and each configuration has several different options that can be added or modified for your needs.

Strip Heaters are constructed the same as a Mica Band and so it also has a temperature rating to 700°F. Strip heaters are used when there is a flat surface or platen needs to be heated. There are many types of Strip heaters. Each configuration has several different options that can be added or modified for your needs.
